Romanychev Brothers, a balalaika and piano duo, have enchanted audiences with their passionate and innovative performances that blend traditional and modern music. Comprising the talented musicians, Michael Romanychev on balalaika and Fedor Romanychev on piano, the duo’s unique combination of instruments creates a harmonious fusion that transcends cultural boundaries and delights listeners of all ages.

Michael Romanychev is a virtuoso balalaika player whose profound musicality and technical prowess have earned him accolades within the world of folk and classical music. With a deep-rooted passion for his instrument and its traditional heritage, Michael’s journey as a balalaika player began in his early childhood in St. Petersburg, Russia. He honed his skills through dedicated practice and formal training in St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory. Michael’s expressive playing style evokes a range of emotions, from heart-warming nostalgia to fiery exuberance.

Fedor Romanychev, the gifted pianist of the duo, complements Michael’s balalaika with his virtuosic piano playing. His passion for the piano was evident from a tender age. Fedor’s musical sensitivity and versatility allow him to seamlessly adapt to various musical genres, enriching the duo’s performances with depth and complexity. Romanychev Brothers‘ journey as a duo began over 17 years ago. Since then, they have embarked on a musical journey, captivating audiences in St. Petersburg and across various cities in Russia and Europe.

In 2015, Romanychev Brothers had the honour of participating in the prestigious Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland, where they earned the awards of the Chamber Music Competition. Since 2016, the duo has been regular performers at the esteemed Days of Scotland festival in St. Petersburg.

The duo showcased their extraordinary perfomance in France (2016, 2017), Italy (2019), Estonia (2022), Spain (2023), leaving audiences awed by their musical finesse and cross-genre mastery.

Beyond their artistic pursuits, Romanychev Brothers are dedicated educators. They actively engage in workshops and educational endeavours, inspiring the next generation of musicians to explore the beauty and cultural significance of traditional instruments and music.
